Intel is expanding its presence in the AI-powered enterprise software market with the launch of a new platform company, Articul8 AI. This venture is backed by DigitalBridge, a Boca Raton, Florida-based asset manager and investor. Articul8 AI, originating from a collaboration between Intel and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), is designed to read text and images. It was developed within Intel over about two years and was fine-tuned for BCG's specific uses. Initially, BCG was the sole supplier and customer of the system, but Intel has since scaled the platform to cater to various industries, including financial services, aerospace, and telecommunications.
The platform, optimized for Intel hardware but supporting alternatives, focuses on speed, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness. It offers cloud, on-premises, or hybrid deployment options and keeps customer data within the enterprise security perimeter. Arun Subramaniyan, formerly of Intel’s data center and AI group, will lead Articul8 AI as CEO. The team will consist of former Intel employees, and Intel will retain a stake in the company.
Articul8 AI aligns with Intel's strategy to invest in software products and services, including GenAI-powered products, to compete with rivals like Nvidia and AMD. This move is part of Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger's plan to revitalize the company through new chip factories and advanced chip manufacturing nodes. Articul8 fits into this strategy by delivering software services that make Intel hardware more attractive for various applications
